Final Week of the semester!!!!

Hello my friends,
I cannot believe these six weeks have flown by so quickly! I know we could all use a little break...my plan is to not fit too much into my days and just do things with my kids that we enjoy....painting, playing hide and seek, taking walks, baking pies and cookies, visiting friends and family we never get to see, going to that retirement home and visiting with people that could use some company....and just breathing and taking in all of God's goodness. That is how I want to spend my off days....how about you?
I know the weekend after we get out of CC...I plan to take my kids across the lake for the weekend and visit all the places mommy grew up...in Harahan and parts of New Orleans...we will visit the zoo, airline skate center, and the old Harahan bowling alley. Also, I covet your prayers for my Haiti trip. I will be leaving Dec. 5-10th. I can't wait to see what God is going to do there.

What will you guys be doing? Just curious.

Back to work:   Our final presentation will be a narration of an Aesop Fable. Don't read off a page the entire time. Know the story. Act it out if you want. Bring pics or props. You guys are getting better and better at this. I love watching you grow. Watch the distracting behavior when you are speaking.
PROJECT your voices...articulate!  Can't wait to see you all again. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Week 11!!!

Hello my friends,

Sooo...for this weeks presentation...our bright little stars will be persuading an audience on a certain topic/subject. They will choose something they feel strongly about and try and convince us of something! They have 2-3 min to do so. They may use props, pictures, etc....get creative.

This week we will be looking at a new Future perfect tense for latin, cubes, the French Revolution, and Eastern Europe...among other things....For science project we will be making Rockets!!!! COOL!  And of course drilling away at tin whistle. By the way, practice your beautiful music at home...just don't drive moms crazy!

I can't believe this is the second to last week before our long break!! I will miss you all.

WEEK 10

Hello everyone! Sorry I am late with this post. It has been a busy week...which is nothing new for all of you!

On Tuesday, remember we will be doing a service project with the pre-schoolers across the parking lot instead of doing science projects.
Our group will be joining with Mrs. Rebekahs group and will be reading a Thanksgiving story and doing a Thanksgiving craft with the two and three year olds. Put your patient and helpful hats on. Serving others is a blessing!! It will be a fun time.

Also, the presentation will be reciting a classic poem....please do not read off a page the entire time. Try and be VERY familiar with your poem. (2-3) min. We will be reviewing all the skills we have learned so far this year. Example: Projection, eye contact, poise, gestures, ...ect....

Can't wait to see all of you!

Week 9!!!

Last week was heavy, wasn't it? A whole lot of information. Listen to that music and review, review, review. Draw the map at home a few time a week. It helps me to go over the map with Soryn and have her draw it out. Also, there are so many fun videos on youtube that span all the subjects. Moms, if you have any school house rock at home or can get your hands on it, those are fun to watch.

I loved the presentations last week and I can't wait to see what we will learn from the students this coming week. Thank you Mia, Ethan and Isabel for leading the way. Gabrielle, Micah, Andrew, Christian, and Jane be ready! Use those gestures and expression.

Thank you for being an amazing class and thank you moms for being the best partners in this learning experience!

ah yes,

We decided that Mia and Andrew would present this coming week. However, in my haste, I did not write down who the other two were. I hope you guys remember. I know that Christian is presenting the following week. Please email me if you guys remember. So...forgive my forgetfulness and Mia and Andrew be sure to be ready.

Thanks guys!

Week 8!

Humility! That is our theme this year. Remember Philipians 2 :3-4.  " do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."

This coming week our presentations will be divided. Four of the students will present this coming week and four will present for week 9. We will be presenting a demonstration speech. The students will have 5-6 minutes each. Choose your favorite activity: how to do something, fix something, use something, make something.  Use visual aids, drawings, volunteers from the audience. Make it fun and interesting. The focus will be GESTURES. Use body movements, hands and arms to enhance your presentation. Don't be stiff.

I have seen students teach how to make origami, make a smoothie, do a computer program...etc...

Be creative!!!! Let us see those individual personalities.

Get ready for more fun with the tin whistle and the solar system...and review your grammar at home!!!

I am having so much fun with all of you. See you on Tuesday!!!

New six weeks!!

Hello my friends,
It is time to get back to work. I hope you all had a nice break. This new six weeks begins a new fine art, tin whistle!! Bring your ear plugs, ladies...Ha! The students need to bring their tin whistles, which you can purchase at Playville. Please make sure they either put their names on them or keep them put away when not using them. It is also helpful to purchase a two pocket folder labeled, "music" for all their music handouts.

Presentations this week will be to recite a famous speech or part of a speech that your person from week 6 was famous for. You can spice up your presentation by dressing the character( remember mrs. shannon's mustaches?) or by speaking like the character. We are focusing on EXPRESSION this week. Don't speak monotone...but vary the volume and intensity. Keep your audience interested by using your voice and facial expressions. 2-3 minutes.

I look forward to seeing all those precious faces again on Tues.
God bless you all.

Finishing up this six weeks!!

Greetings brave and determined moms!!!

We are the trail blazers. We are the pilgrims of our time. Kind of exciting and scary all at the same time, isn't it? Not to mention a bit overwhelming. That is o.k, because God called us for this purpose at such a time as this. We are all in this together. Don't forget that.

Sooo...we finally pulled off six weeks coming up and then a nice, needed, break for a week. I know I could use a break.
This weeks presentation is on a famous speech  and biography of the famous person who gave the speech or wrote the speech. It can be 2-3 min in length. We are focusing on poise. Poise is the act of being calm and confident. We don't always "feel" calm and confident, however feelings are not reliant, so we instead focus on God's power and strength that gives us confidence when we don't feel it. It is a matter of knowing who you are in Christ. Pictures and props are welcomed. This presentation cannot be put off until last minute. Take time to really get to know this famous speech, so that you can share with the rest of us and we can learn too. I challenge the students to memorize even a tiny bit of the speech.

Our class is doing very well. I am so proud of the character that I see and the behavior that flows from that character. I think the class would benefit from reviewing math facts, geography, latin, and history at home.

Can't wait to see you guys again. Have a wonderful week!!! A blessed week!!
